The Greatest Love

The Greatest Love

Welcome to February.  Valentine’s Day is just around the corner.  This is a time when many people think about love.  For most of us, that means finding a “special someone” with whom we can give and receive love.  We may have other people in our lives we feel love for and from – parents, siblings, children, friends as well.  But what is the most important love in our lives?

Hint!  Go look in the mirror.  Meet your greatest love!

Yes, the most important love and relationship in your life is the one you have with yourself.

This is not about selfishness or vanity.  This is not narcissism.  True self love is like real self-confidence.  It is calm and quiet.  When you truly love yourself, you don’t need to blast it to the world or even tell anyone else.  Loving yourself allows you to love others.  It also allows you to feel love from others.  If you don’t see your worth, it’s impossible to believe anybody else would.

Start today – tell yourself something kind and nice.  Find, recognize and appreciate the qualities you like about yourself.  Don’t give time to those negative thoughts.

Treat yourself the way you would a good friend or loved one.  Be caring of your own thoughts and feelings.  Be more forgiving of yourself, and less critical.  Be kind.

Stop allowing your own thoughts to undermine your health and wellbeing.  You are not perfect, but give yourself credit for the efforts you make, and stop focusing on the failures.  No matter whether you are successful or not, the sun will rise tomorrow, and another opportunity awaits.  Maybe this will turn out better.

Cultivate optimism.  Things don’t always work out, but sometimes they do.

These things are simple, but not easy.  If you are struggling, please seek help.
