Myths and False Beliefs

While “Fake News” is recently trending, people have been struggling with false beliefs and myths for centuries. Some myths and beliefs are benign, and do not harm us or create difficulties in our lives. Other beliefs, however, can undermine our personal well being. What are some common false beliefs that can work against you?

“I can’t do anything right”

“Anybody who really knows me knows how bad I am” or “To know me is to despise me”

“Nothing will help/work out/be successful”.

It is important to remember that these negative personal statements are opinions, not facts. Opinions can change. You can change.

Start questioning your thoughts and beliefs. Ask yourself, would you say that about a good friend (“Nothing he or she does ever turns out right”, “He or she is an idiot”). A good rule of thumb is if you wouldn’t say this to or about your best friend or loved one, don’t say it about yourself!

Secondly, replace that negative belief or thought with a positive one. (“Despite challenges, I am a good worthwhile person”, or, “I will try my best, and hopefully achieve some success”).

Remember, change is a process. You have spent many years undermining yourself with negative self-talk, opinion and thoughts. It will take time to change those habits. Today is a great day to start!

Today – think of yourself as if you were your own best friend. What nice thing would you do for your friend today? (Now do it for yourself). What supportive statement would you say to your friend today? (Now say it to yourself).

Sometimes, serious depression can limit how well your brain works. When you are depressed, you might lack the clarity to see or hear the negative thoughts running in your brain. Ketamine is different from other treatments for depression in its direct targeting of thought processes. Persons who have had ketamine treatment report a greater ability to understand their situation and see a pathway forward.

If you are having trouble changing your negative self statements, opinions and thought patterns, call the professionals at Ketamine Wellness Centers. Ketamine treatments can help you start to untangle the mental traps you set for yourself, and help you change these longstanding negative thought patterns and habits.
